A Threat to all Humanity 

Last September 2, 2016 a bomb exploded on a busy Friday night in Davao’s night market which left 14 dead and 60 injured. This is for sure an act of terrorism. The Abu Sayyaf claimed responsibility for the attacks, a representative of the said terrorist group even told the media “They are doing this to sympathize (with) our group, and we are sending a message to President Rodrigo Duterte that all the Daulat throughout the country is not afraid of him,” It is beyond saddening to hear such news. Even Davao the country’s most peaceful city and one of the world’s became a plot to this inhumane act it just implies that all of the cities, municipalities and provinces are at risk of any form of violence. It is an eye- opener for us to be vigilant at all times.

            Terrorism has been around since the beginning of time, and has caused empires to rise, fall, and allowed people to gain power. It is a growing problem in this unstable world. A simple act of terrorism can cause tensions to break between two countries or even between two different groups with different religious beliefs and in this case the latter. Despite our cultural differences we should still unite. It is not a hurdle but rather an advantage since people of different cultures can share various ideas for the betterment of our nation. I am lost for words of the mere prospect that the Abu Sayyaf and other rebel groups are also Filipinos; they even sought to gain support from ISIS which is an international terrorist group. One of the beliefs of this terrorist organization is that when they kill Christians they can already achieve salvation- these is a form of fallacy since it is clearly stated in their holy book, the Qur’an to not kill. As to how did they come up with this false logic? It is a mystery waiting to be unfolded.

            I believe in the innate goodness of all human beings; but for the past years, there are numerous violence attacks which shook the whole world that made me to think otherwise. Terrorism is a threat to all humanity. All of us should put a stop to this. The leaders of different nations should unite to end this. The Davao bombing is a concrete example of why we should exterminate it. How nice would our world be when we are not afraid of our security! At this point in time, it is quite impossible but through God and our prayers we can achieve just that.
